Dubai Creek, also known as Khor Dubai by the locals of Dubai, is a natural saltwater inlet that has played an important role in the development and evolution of Dubai from a small fishing village to a global city. It stretches about 14 kilometers from the Persian Gulf to the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, dividing the city into two main parts: Deira to the north and Bur Dubai to the south.In the early 20th century, the creek was crucial for fishing, which was key to Dubai's economy. People lived around the creek more than 4,000 years ago. Before oil was discovered in Dubai, their economy depended on pearling (small, round white objects that form inside the shells of a sea creature and are used to make jewelry). Divers took pearls from the creek, which were traded with merchants from India, Persia, and other regions. The creek's location made it perfect for these trading activities.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Dubai Creek underwent changes under the leadership of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. He started projects to deepen the creek, allowing larger ships to enter. This helped Dubai become a significant trading hub, attracting merchants from all over.Before the discovery of oil, Dubai's economy heavily depended on pearl diving, which took place in the waters of Dubai Creek and the surrounding Arabian Gulf. It was a significant contributor to Dubai's economy.

Dubai Creek is home to some of the city's oldest markets, known as souks (an Arab market or marketplace). The Gold Souk and Spice Souk in Deira are famous. The Gold Souk is known for its jewelry, while the Spice Souk offers a variety of spices, herbs, and traditional medicines.

Abras are traditional wooden boats used to transport people or goods across the creek. These rides offer a unique view of the busy waterfront and are a popular and affordable way to cross the creek.In recent years, Dubai Creek has seen significant infrastructure changes and improvements. Bridges like Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge, and the Dubai Creek Bridge have improved connectivity between Deira and Bur Dubai.

One of the major modern developments around Dubai Creek is Dubai Creek Harbour. This project aims to create a new urban center with residential and commercial areas. The centerpiece is the Dubai Creek Tower, set to be one of the tallest structures in the world.

Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club is located on the Deira side. The Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club features an 18-hole championship golf course, a marina, and several dining establishments. At the end of Dubai Creek is the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area that is home to many migratory birds like flamingos.

Modern developments around Dubai Creek are implementing green building practices and energy-efficient technologies to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainable living. Dubai Creek is a major attraction for tourists, offering a mix of historical attractions and modern amenities. The waterfront, traditional souks, and cultural landmarks draw millions of visitors each year.
