The Museum of the Future aims to show the impact of how technologies change the world and what their impact is as a developed country. The Museum of the Future was designed by the architect Shaun Killa. The building was designed in a unique torus-shaped structure which symbolizes the unknown future. The exterior of the structure is covered with Arabic calligraphy which is a quote by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.
The construction of the Museum of the Future started in June 2016. It took 6 years for completion and the museum was officially opened in February 2022. The project was executed by the Dubai Future Foundation, a governmental company created by Sheikh Mohammed. The motto of the Museum of the Future is 'See the Future, Create the Future'. It is not just a museum, it's a warehouse of artifacts. More than that, it is a place of ideas not yet initiated; it is a place of art, engineering, and construction. The discovery of mystery starts from the design; according to the designer, the void space in the center of the building denotes, “People who seek what we don’t know are the inventors and discoverers for the future.”
The Museum of the Future aims for the visitor to take them to the future of the year 2071 through augmented reality and virtual reality. They take us through futuristic themes and exhibits. The museum has themes that fully focus on future technologies and human development. The areas look like places of advancement in fields like artificial intelligence and space exploration. As mentioned above, visitors can interact with AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality), which show the futuristic capability of replacing a robot in the place of interactions.
Audi collaborated with the Museum of the Future to introduce its autonomous concept car. The Audi Skysphere is the first car in the family of autonomous concept cars of Audi. The car has a revolutionary design and is fully integrated with a digital ecosystem, which also gives a physical interactive experience.
In the aim of showing advancements in space research, the Museum of the Future creates an illusion of experiencing the view from Low Earth Orbit that is 600 km away from Earth by using advanced augmented reality and virtual reality for visitors to experience the 360-degree view of Earth seen from space. High-resolution displays and quality audio enhance the experience of floating in space. The Museum of the Future uses dome projections, which means large curved displays around the visitors for displaying real footage from space missions, which blur the difference between reality and the illusion of 600 km away from Earth.
When you enter the Museum of the Future, in the lobby you need to buy a ticket from the ticket counter. After that, you will be taken to the main entrance, and then you are going to travel to the future in a lift-like space with dome projections that display a journey like traveling in a rocket to a destination 600 km above Earth. This denotes that we will spend our future days in a space station. After that, you can explore the things that were collaborated with innovators, scientists, and thinkers around the world, getting a first look at what the future might hold.
The entry fee for standard admission for adults is typically around AED 95 approximately. For children and students, the rates are often reduced with a valid ID. The prices for entry may vary depending on the standard and special exhibitions. The special exhibition contains advanced technologies such as robotics, future cities, and biotechnology.
